Experienced CMP Fellows hired by San Diego Unified and Carlsbad Unified School Districts
Congratulations to the following former CMP Fellows who have just been hired to teach music in the following school districts.
- Christopher Mena at Hoover High School, SDUSD (his original CMP site)
- Kyoko Miura at Montgomery Middle School, SDUSD
- Amber Gustafson, an elementary general music teacher in the Carlsbad USD
- Joan Li, an elementary general music teacher in the Carlsbad USD
- Robin Guroff, an elementary general music teacher in the Carlsbad USD
Mark Nicholson, a music administrator for San Diego USD, was asked, "Are the former CMP Fellows transitioning more easily into their newly appointed teaching positions than those new teachers who do not have the CMP experience?"
Mark responded by stating the following,
"Absolutely the transitions into their new teaching assignments have been considerably effortless because of their CMP experience. They have a support system already built-in; they can call upon any of our CMP teacher/mentors with whom they already have developed professional relationships. They also know the key people in the schools (and the district) who are glad to assist them in their new assignment.
Also, I want you to know that I have greater confidence in hiring a CMP fellow – because I know their work – than I do in a twenty minute interview process where I have to make some pretty quick assumptions on a candidate's potential work. Overall score: A+ CMP is a huge asset to SDUSD!"
The California Music Project is a proud partner of the San Diego Unified School District and continues to look forward to supporting the students in San Diego.
